An Arm Lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty, targets sagging underarms by removing the excess skin; giving the patient tight, toned and defined arms. It is very common to have sagging skin in the arms due to aging, genetics or major weight loss. It is possible to strengthen upper arm muscles with exercise without having to go for surgery however it is not possible to eliminate sagging, excess skin and fat without surgery. This is where the arm lift comes into the play to give patients beautiful toned arms.
• People who have sagging or loose skin on their arms.
• People who have a disproportionate amount of fat on their upper arms compared to their lower arms.
• People who have excess skin on their upper arms due to weight loss.
It is a simple and safe operation that takes 1-3 hours to perform and can be exercised under general anesthesia or local sedation. Your doctor will remove excess skin, fat and tissue inside the arm and the reshape it to make it look firmer, tighter and younger. The incisions will most likely be made in the interior or the back of the arm and the total area that will be operated on is from the armpit to the elbow. After the incision has been made, fat will be extracted by using whatever method you doctor thinks is best. Then the tissue and skin will be reshaped. Removable or absorbable stitches will be used in the closing stage depending on the patient. The result will give you a much better proportioned appearance.
Time it takes for patients to go back to daily life after arm lift surgery is about one week. Patients come out of surgery with bandages in their arms. Once the initial bandages are removed, patients will be asked to wear compacting garments for about 2 weeks in order to help the skin tighten around itself. There will be slight pain and discomfort which most patients describe as tolerable. Pain killers can be prescribed by our doctors in order to help with that. There will be swelling and bruising in the arm. Mild numbness is also very normal. These will go away within 2 weeks. Your scars will start to heal and diminish within 5 to 10 days. Severe sports activity or heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 2 months after the surgery as it would not be wise to apply pressure to the treated area.
