A chin implant is a cosmetic procedure performed to change the shape of the bone contour of the chin area. This is done by placing a fitted implant on the bone of the chin right underneath the skin. This surgery is also called genioplasty and it is preferred by many to augment the size and shape of the chin. This way a more naturally attractive balance can be achieved in the face.
Chin implant is a permanent solution to those with a weak and recessed chin.
It would not possible to tell whether someone has had chin implant surgery to the unknown eye.
• People who have weak or recessed chin.
• People whose chin does not match with the proportions of the features in the rest of the face.
• People who do not have a defined jawline.
• People who have the appearance of a full or double chin due to having a small chin bone.
Chin implant surgery is usually performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The implant is placed through a small incision to the mouth or under the chin. The implant is placed inside through this incision and the area is reshaped to give it the shape and structure that was decided upon.
These implants are small, solid pieces made by silicone usually. They are made from biocompatible material meaning that they will not harm the body. They come in different shapes and sizes. Your ITMT Group doctor will help you decide which shape fits you best and you will get a chance to see in 3d imaging simulations what your new chin will look like post operation.
This is an outpatient treatment which typically takes around 1 hour to perform. Once the implant is placed and structured, the incision is closed up with sutures and the chin is wrapped with bandages.
Since this is a relatively simple surgery, recovery time is relatively easy and quick. Patients can resume work and daily activities within the week of surgery. Discomfort is minimal. Some swelling and bruising is normal around the treated area. Your doctor will advise you to keep your head elevated for around 10 days after the surgery to keep the swelling to a minimum. Cold compresses will help with that as well. You may be required to consume a liquid only diet for a day or two after the surgery.
After one month, your new chin will reveal itself once the swelling has gone done however the final results will take about 3 months to settle in.
