A face lift is a cosmetic surgery performed to create a youthful appearance in the face in which fat and excess skin may be removed or redistributed to eliminate folds and/ or sagging. Patients come out looking rejuvenated and years younger.
• People with sagging in the face area
• People with wrinkles around the mouth or the neck area
• People who have decreased face fat tissue volume
• People with double chin or sagging chin skin
• People who suffer from low self-confidence due to deformation in the whole face area
Patients that are non-smokers that dont have any chronic diseases are great candidates for facelift surgery.
Once you come for your consultation at the ITMT Group, our doctors will take medical images of your face area first. It is important that you share your entire medical history, allergies and related information with your doctor. Think of this stage as a two way conversation where you ask your doctor all of your questions and your doctor asks you about what you want and what is currently bothering you. Once trust is established, methods can be discussed depending on what you want and what is medically best for you.
Facelift surgery is performed with local or general anesthesia depending on the scope. The procedure involves incisions along the hair line and behind the ear which vary in size depending on the how much sagging there is. Tissue is stretched out in the face and neck area where sagging occurs. This gets rid of wrinkles as well. Fat that is collected from other parts of your body can be injected in areas that have become hollow. The overall result is a much younger looking, natural face.
The surgery typically takes 2-4 hours.
You will come out of the operation with bandages on your face and head. This is used to keep the swelling and bruising to a minimum. There will be a drain placed under the bandages in order to collect any excess bleeding or excretion. This will be removed in a couple of days. It is extremely important that you protect you face from any impact and keep it as stable as possible for the first few days. Swelling, bruises and scarring will go away in a few weeks. In the post-operation phase, it is recommended that the patient rests his/her head at a higher level than usual (preferably at a 30 degree angle) to keep the swelling at minimum. It will take about 4-6 weeks for all the bruising and puffiness to go down.
Patients can get back to work within 7-10 day following the surgery.
The incisions are made inside the hairline and right behind the ears so that the procedure doesn’t leave scarring in anywhere visible. If the neck area is being operated on then a small cut is made under the chin. How the scars heal depend on post care regimen and lifestyle choices as well. Patients who follow a healthy diet, avoid sun exposure and do not smoke have minimum to no scarring left. In any case, facelift lines are very difficult to notice after full recovery is achieved.
There are many different methods and techniques that can be used in facelift surgery depending on what the patient wants and what it medically advisable. Spider Web for instance is a very popular recent technique that uses the latest technology. Also known as a thread facelift, it is far more effective than traditional methods and have shorter recovery periods.
Surgical facelift is an option for people with advanced sagging, deformation or wrinkles on the face.
