Forehead reduction which is also known as Hairline Lowering Surgery is a surgical procedure performed to bring the brow closer to the hairline, thus decreasing the size of the forehead. It basically shortens the distance between the eyebrows and where the hair begins. Some people have proportions that make the forehead area larger than it needs to be. This surgery helps create more balance to give the patients a more attractive look.
• People with a high forehead
• People who have enough elasticity in their scalp skin
• People who suffer from low self-esteem due to having a large forehead
• People whose facial proportions are off due to having a large forehead
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia during which an incision is made along the hairline and part of the skin in the forehead is removed. Afterwards, the scalp is attached to the bone using dissolvable material. Hair grows normally where the incisions have been made and there is no visible scarring. The operation takes about 3 hours to complete.
Expected recovery time is anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks. Patients can return to daily activities and work the week of surgery. Swelling and bruising is normal and expected. They start to go down within a week or two. Keeping the head elevated is essential in order to help with swelling. Sleeping on a few pillows is a great idea during the course of recovery.
