Penis enlargement surgery is performed in order enhance the size of the penis. This is a very sensitive issue for many men affecting their self-esteem and today there are many creams, injections and devices that are marketed for the sole purpose of making a penis bigger or larger. However the sad truth is that none of these works and the only way to create a difference in the size/shape of any penis is through surgical intervention.
The surgical intervention is still in the experimental phase with two different ways of approaching the process. First of the two techniques is called penile augmentation and it is performed by grafting fat cells from the body onto the penis or by directly injecting fat cells into the penis. With time however, the body may reabsorb the fat causing the penis to return to its former size. The second technique is called suspensory ligament release in which the ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic area is removed. This changes the angle of the penis making it appear longer. This may create complications during intercourse however as the angle of the penis will be different when erect. These complications are being overcome each day as the technology in this area advances. It can be said that about 80% of the suspensory ligament are cut in this process. This doesn’t break the connection between the penis and the pelvis but provides lengthening with enough attachment. Patients do not lose the ability the manage the penis during intercourse but this may take some time getting used to. After this surgery an elongation of 2-3 cm’s can be achieved.
It is important to note that the operation does not affect the erection process so erectile dysfunctions should not be aimed to be resolves under this category.
• Men who have low self-esteem due to the length or size of their penis.
• Men who have micro penises or very short penises that could benefit from receiving a 2-3 cm boost.
• Men who experience problems with their sexual relationships due to the size of their penises.
Penis enlargement surgery is permanent and patients will experience some swelling, brusing and mild pain after the surgery. This is completely normal. There will not be any issues with urination. Recovery is achieved within an average of 3 weeks and after this period patient can resume sexual activity (masturbation/intercourse) by getting approval from the doctor. Patients can expect to return to normal daily life and social activities in 2 weeks after the surgery. It will not be evident that one has had penis enlargement surgery after full recovery is achieved.
