This surgery is also known as pubic lift and refers to removal of excess skin and fatty tissue from the fatty pad over the pubic bone. This fatty pad is called the mons pubis and the mons pubis may become enlarged for many reasons. It is more obvious in women but men have it too therefore this surgery involves both genders. Monsplasty creates a younger looking, flat appearance in this area.
Weight gain, weight loss, aging and genetics may all contribute to having an enlarged, saggy mons pubis. Hormonal changes or complications from having a c-section may also cause sagging or enlargement in this area.
The results of this surgery are permanent and immediate however fat disposition in this area can occur if the patient gains weight again. Therefore a healthy diet and exercise regimen must be accompanied to maintain healthy, young look.
• People who have enlarged mons pubis
• People whose enlarged mons pubis droop over the vulva or the penis making it difficult to urinate or have sex
• People whose enlarged mons pubis is making it difficult to maintain hygiene between the folds of skin
• People who suffer from low self-esteem due to having an enlarged or saggy mons pubis
A monsplasty is usually performed with a tummy tuck because the two areas follow each other in the human body and a condition that has affected one has most likely affected the other as well. It is often used with liposuction as well. Whether or not other side surgeries will be needed will be determined and discussed before operation.
If only monoplasty is performed, it will most likely be under local anesthesia. Once the area is numb an incision will be made inside the bikini line and excess tissue is removed with a scalpel. The underlying tissue is then tightened and reshaped using sutures and the incision area is closed up.
Mild discomfort, swelling and bruising is very normal after surgery. These will last for about 2-3 weeks. Patients will be able to take slow paced walked the day after surgery. Returning to work and daily activities are expected in about a week or two after surgery however heavy lifting and rigorous physical exercise must be avoided for at least a month.
The result of the surgery are immediate as the excess skin will have been cut off however it takes around to 4 to 6 weeks for the treated area to heal.
