Vaginoplasty is the name given to the operation that constructs or repairs a vagina. It is used to treat vaginal injuries or defects that can happen due to medical issues or childbirth. It is also used in creating a transgender vagina for people going through gender change.
In some cases, vaginoplasty requires a year long preparation before the surgery takes place during which the patient undergoes hormone therapy.
This surgery can do wonders in improving sexual pleasure/satisfaction and also increase self-esteem.
• Women who suffered damage in their vagina due to child birth
• Women who want to repair vagina defects or trauma to improve sexual function
• Women who need vaginal reconstruction after undergoing radiation
• Women with congenital abnormalities that affected the development of the vagina
• Transgender people undergoing gender affirmation surgery
A vaginoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. During a vaginoplasty, extra skin is removed and loose tissue is tightened using stitches. This reduces the opening size of the vagina thus creating a tighter feeling.
The procedure for constructing a vagina for transitioning individuals is very different and we would like you to consult our ITMT Group doctors if this is something that applies to you.
Recovery period varies from patient to patient depending on what type of vaginoplasty was performed. For vaginal repair, some downtime will be needed. Patients may also have to use a vaginal dilator which is a device you insert into the vagina to gently stretch it in order to keep the depth and caliber. Your doctor will inform you about whether this will be needed or not.
