Dental bridges are used for people with missing teeth. Dental bridges are used to fill the gap created by the missing teeth by using one or more artificial tooth.
• People who have missing teeth due to tooth decay or tooth damage
• People who have biting or chewing problems due to missing teeth
• People who suffer from low self esteem due to having missing teeth
ITMT Group dentists will place an artificial tooth in the gap created by the missing tooth that is held in place with attachment to the crowns on the teeth on either side. The crowns of the healthy teeth keep the bridge in place. Sometimes only one healthy tooth is enough to support the dental bridge. This depends on where the missing tooth is and the conditions of the rest of the teeth.
A dental bridge placement requires two visits to the dentist’s office typically. In the first one, the healthy teeth are prepared by shaving and then impressions of the treated area are taken to be sent to the lab. This is used to make the false tooth and the bridge. As you wait for the lab to do this a temporary bridge is put in place to protect the exposed areas. Once the actual bridge is made – which takes a couple of weeks – then you go back to the dentist’s office and the bridge is put in place.
Dental bridges can last anywhere between five to seven years depending on how good you take care of your mouth. It will take a few days to get used to the new feeling in the mouth after the procedure. A soft food diet may be administered for the few days following the procedure.
