FUE is the abbreviation of follicular unit extraction which means to individually harvest hair follicules from a donor site to be planted into the treatment area. The extracted follicles are prepared for implantation and then planted meticulously in the perfect orientation, pattern, direction and fit to mesh with the rest of the hair.
With this procedure the person’s hair starts to grow again and the effects of balding or thinning are totally reversed.
• Women who have balding areas in their head
• Women who have thinning hair
• Women who suffer from low self-esteem due to thinning, scarce or balding hair
Your doctor will first determine the donor site where healthy hair follicles will be extracted. This area is usually the backside of the head. Once the donor site is determined then follicles will be extracted. This is done with a micro-motor by making tiny holes in the donor site from which the follicles are harvested. These follicles are then examined and only the healthiest looking ones are chosen for the planting process.
Once this process is completed then the recipient site is prepared for plantation. A local anesthesia is applied and then small incisions are made through which the hair follicles are planted.
This is an outpatient surgery which doesn’t require overnight stay at our ITMT Group facilities. Patients are discharged the day of surgery. The scalp may be sore and tender. Some redness is quite normal. Patients will be asked to wear bandages around the head for a few days after surgery. They can return to daily activities and work as early as the next day after surgery.
The planted hair will fall out after 2-3 weeks post surgery and this is very normal. New hair should start to grow within a few months.
